Altar Therapy

Have you ever gone to a wedding and heard this: “I now pronounce you—healthier.”

Those words aren’t common at weddings but they could be.

Studies show married men are healthier than men who never tied the knot–and even live dramatically longer than unmarried men.

Other research says married men and women are healthier than singles—physically and emotionally. One theory is that having a spouse may reduce stress and encourage healthier living. Plus a strong relationship can lead to better mental health, and this could translate into better physical health.

Both saying “I do,” and working hard to keep your marriage healthy, could be a vow for a healthier, longer life.
