Mini-Resolution No. 6 – Reach Out To Someone Who Was There For You In 2012

Got another ‘mini-challenge’ for you today. It’s one of 30 to kick off 2013, all designed to make a difference in other people lives. Today, try reaching out to someone that was there for you in 2012! Some who stood beside you in difficult time, comforted you. ~ Kurt

Mini-Resolution No. 5 – Choose A Person To Pray For This Year

Pastor and author, E.M. Bounds spent his ministry with an emphasis on the importance of prayer. He said, “Prayer is God’s plan to supply man’s great and continuous need with God’s great and continuous abundance.”

He wrote numerous books on prayer that surrounded these basic four principles: God hears prayer. God heeds prayer. God answers prayer. God delivers by prayer.

Today, pick one person in your life pray specifically for them in 2013. For tips on developing your prayer life, visit here.

Mini-Resolutions: No. 1 – Lend A Hand to Someone In Need

What better way to start a new year than with a good news story?  Amanda’s story is a great example of how one person (you!) can make a difference by taking the first small step.

Throughout the month of January, we’ll be sharing some mini resolutions for you and your family to get started on the right foot in the new year.  Today, lend a hand to someone in need.  Share your story on our Facebook page, give us a call at 855-987-4463, or leave a comment below.  We can’t wait to hear your story!

My One Word for 2013

Hey it’s Garrett from Shine Afternoons and this year instead of making a resolution, how about filtering 2013 through ONE WORD instead? I’ve been doing this for a couple years and it’s been really been incredible to “walk-out,” (it IS our first Walk-It-Out-Wednesday of 2013 by the way)!  I’ll be talking about this and sharing your “one word” the rest of the week too on Shine Afternoons.  Would you pray about it and let me know what your “one-word” for 2013 is?  Oh, and THANKS for starting your new year by listening to the New Shine.FM!

How Has God Blessed You in 2012?

It’s Garrett from Shine Afternoons.  As we say good-bye to 2012, I’d like to know how has God blessed you and your family this year? And while you’re at it, don’t forget to thank Him too!

A Poem From Max Lucado

It’s Garrett from Shine Afternoons and all of here at the New Shine.FM are lifting up lifting up the families and friends of those involved in last Friday morning’s tragedy in Newtown, CT. Max Lucado shared this poem over the weekend, and I thought it was a fitting way to start the week.

Dear Jesus,

It’s a good thing you were born at night. This world sure seems dark. I have a good eye for silver linings. But they seem dimmer lately.

These killings, Lord. These children, Lord. Innocence violated. Raw evil demonstrated.

The whole world seems on edge. Trigger-happy. Ticked off. We hear threats of chemical weapons and nuclear bombs. Are we one button-push away from annihilation?

Your world seems a bit darker this Christmas. But you were born in the dark, right? You came at night. The shepherds were nightshift workers. The Wise Men followed a star. Your first cries were heard in the shadows. To see your face, Mary and Joseph needed a candle flame. It was dark. Dark with Herod’s jealousy. Dark with Roman oppression. Dark with poverty. Dark with violence.

Herod went on a rampage, killing babies. Joseph took you and your mom into Egypt. You were an immigrant before you were a Nazarene.

Oh, Lord Jesus, you entered the dark world of your day. Won’t you enter ours? We are weary of bloodshed. We, like the wise men, are looking for a star. We, like the shepherds, are kneeling at a manger.

This Christmas, we ask you, heal us, help us, be born anew in us.

Your Children

-Max Lucado

Be Transformed

Are you being transformed by Jesus today? This is one of my life verses and when I feel a little “dull,” this verse “sharpens” me back up!
